GATE 2018GATE 2018 is an engineering postgraduate entrance examination that is conducted by the IITs and IISc (Indian Institute of Science) on a rotational basis every year. The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a national level exam that grants admission to the engineering/technology PG courses in various reputed engineering colleges of India including IITs, IISc and IISER. GATE 2018 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates who wish to apply for GATE 2018 must be eligible to apply for the post. The eligibility criteria details are given below.

Educational Qualification

  • 4-years B.E./B.Tech (after 10+2) in any stream or 3-years B.Tech lateral entry (after B.Sc./Diploma in Engineering/Technology). Final year candidates may also apply.
  • 5-years B.Arch degree
  • 4-years B.Sc. degree (post-diploma or after 10+2)
  • Master’s in Science/Mathematics/Statistics/Computer Applications or equivalent
  • 4-years Post-BSc Integrated Master’s in Engineering / Technology
  • 5-years Integrated Master’s degree or Dual Degree in Engineering/Technology
  • Integrated M.Sc. or Five years integrated B. S./M. S. program
  • E/B.Tech/B.Arch equivalent examinations of Professional Societies, recognized by MHRD/UPSC/AICTE
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/Technology or M.Sc. in any relevant science subject for International candidates.

Age Limit:

There is no age limit for GATE exam.

Application Fee:

The application fee is Rs. 750/- for SC/ST/PWD and Women candidates, Rs. 1500/- for unreserved categories, and $50 for International applicants. The fee can be paid via Net banking, debit/credit card or e-challan.

GATE 2018 Important Dates

The GATE 2018 exam date has been announced by the IIT Gauhati. Following are the important date of the entrance examination which is going to be held in February 2018.

GATE 2018 Notification and Application Form

GATE 2018 exam notification is likely to be released in July 2017 and the online application process will begin in September/October month. Those, who are eligible for GATE 2018 exam and wish to apply for the same, can fill online application on or before the last date mentioned below. GATE applications will only be accepted online through GATE Online Application Processing System (GOAPS). No offline method of registration is provided. To apply for the GATE 2018 follow instruction shown below:

  • First of all, visit the official website of the IIT Gauhati.
  • Next Click on the link “GATE 2018”.
  • After that, Click on “Online application Registration”.
  • Now, Fill all the details in the application. Upload signature and photograph.
  • Finally, click on submit button.

GATE 2018 exam will be conducted in India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Singapore, Ethiopia, UAE and Sri Lanka. Any eligible candidate can attend the GATE examination by filling the online application. The application process is same for Indian and International students. Students will be allowed to make minor modifications in a submitted GATE application form only before the last date.

GATE 2018 Exam Pattern

GATE 2018 online exam pattern is explained below.

  • GATE exam will be held for total 23 papers, out of which you can choose one when applying online.
  • The exam will be conducted online (computer based test)
  • There will be total 65 questions in the GATE 2018 online test paper.
  • The exam duration is 3 hours.
  • GATE exam paper will include the following two types of questions:
    1. Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) with 4 choices
    2. Numerical Answer Type Questions (NAT) with no options
  • MCQ type questions will be worth 1 mark each and NAT questions will be worth 2 marks each.
  • 1/3 marks will be deducted for each wrong MCQ answer and 2/3 marks will be deducted for each wrong NAT answer.
  • Paper GG Pattern
    1. 25 questions of 1 mark each
    2. 30 questions of 2 marks each (Geology and Geophysics sections)
    3. 10 questions from GA (General Aptitude)
  • Paper XE Pattern
    1. Section A: Total 11 questions from Engineering Mathematics. 7 questions of 1 mark each and 4 questions of 2 marks each.
    2. Any two sections from B to H: 22 questions. 9 questions of 1 mark each and 13 questions of 2 marks each.
    3. 10 questions from GA
  • Paper XL Pattern
    1. Section P – 15 questions from Chemistry. 5 questions of 1 mark each and 10 questions of 2 marks each.
    2. Any two sections from Q to U – Total 20 questions. 10 questions of 1 mark each and 10 questions of 2 marks each.
    3. 10 questions from GA
  • Pattern For All Papers Except GG, XE, XL
    1. 25 questions of 1 mark each
    2. 30 questions of 2 marks each
    3. 10 questions from GA

GATE 2018 Syllabus

GATE exam is held for 23 different papers based on the different branches of engineering. GATE online test syllabus is loosely based on the 4-years engineering course syllabus.

GATE 2018 Admit Card:

The admit cards for GATE 2018 would be available through the online process only. Candidates can download their admit card from GATE website. Candidates need to download and print admit cards from gate website and NO printed copy of admit cards shall be sent by post to the candidates.

GATE 2018 results:

The results of GATE Exam will be announced in the month of March 2018 and will be available on the GATE Online Application Website. GATE score is valid for THREE YEARS from the date of announcement of the results.
